Strawberry season is here or so my email would have me believe. Earlier this week, the husband and I went out to my favorite u-pick farm to get some fresh, tasty goodness.
While it's true that everything tastes better fresh, there are some foods that simply must be fresh to properly enjoy. I, for one, do not buy tomatoes at the grocery store. Far too many summers spent eating them fresh from the vine have tainted me and I just can't enjoy store bought.
So, yeah, strawberries. And we had fun, took the little hay ride out to the fields and the strawberries were gorgeous. Big and dark red and my daughter probably had as many in her belly as she had in her bucket. We picked with merry abandon and ended up with...er...22 lbs. O_o
Well, I have strawberries for the next year, now. Mmmmmmmm.
Cherry season is next, then blueberries. I'll have all of summer in my freezer by the end of it. :D

Date: 2010-06-22 04:47 am (UTC)I had the opportunity to compare fresh local strawberries and some giant mutant California strawberries the other day. The local fruit was sweet and juicy, the other...wasn't. No comparison at all, really. 8-)
