Ficlet: Never Ever After (Heroes, Hiro/Peter)
Man, I am such a dork. *G*
Bu the idea came into my head and it claimed it needed written, so I went for it. Eh, I haven't written for months, may as well get back into the swing of it!

Heroes
Hiro/Peter
Rated: PG
SPOILERS: Yep, spoilers through episode five.
Summary: Hiro's thoughts on the subway car.
~~*~~
“You look different without the scar.”
Different in a hundred little ways but there wasn’t time to say that, there was barely enough time to say what needed to be said. Wanted was something else, all the things Hiro wanted to say would take a lifetime, rewinding time and space just to feel the words leave his tongue again, to see the light in Peter’s eyes change, over and over.
Save the cheerleader, save the world but also change the world. Change all of them in ways that even Hiro couldn’t foresee. People who wouldn’t die, events that wouldn’t happen, places they wouldn’t be.
He had to remind himself not to touch Peter. Panic was layered beneath his curiosity and any slight wrong move would bring it to the fore and possibly negate the message that needed to be heard. He nearly did it anyway even if he wasn’t allowed, not yet, possibly never would be. Save the cheerleader, change the world and they would never end up on the run together.
Day after day, doing what they could to help in a war that their very genes had enlisted them in. Hiding out when they had to and once, camped in a decrepit office building, the smells of moldering papers and sour death strong in their nostrils over the warm sting of a stolen bottle of whiskey. They would never huddle close for warmth, never touch, never weep for friends lost, lovers…never ever after.
With this one time shift, he risked a rift, that much he could say but there was no time to tell Peter the truth, the whole of it, that he was risking everything. Everything he was about to lose, even hoped he would, for the sake of the world. Lovers lost, never to be found. Peter.
And neither of them would ever even know it.
"Save the cheerleader, save the world," Hiro told him and walked away, back to a future that he hoped was a better place. For all of them.

I finally got around to uploading a Heroes icon, just to comment on this. Not that it's any skin off my nose - everyone could do with a Prettyrelli icon.

So far Hiro is the main reason I'm still watching; everyone in the house adores him.

Oh, thank you! I couldn't help but wonder about the changes in the future if they did manage to save the cheerleader. Hiro would be returning to a future completely different from the one he left and I wondered how that would affect him. :)
