Ficlet: Never Ever After (Heroes, Hiro/Peter)

Man, I am such a dork. *G*

Bu the idea came into my head and it claimed it needed written, so I went for it. Eh, I haven't written for months, may as well get back into the swing of it!

Never Ever After
by Keelywolfe
Heroes
Hiro/Peter
Rated: PG

SPOILERS: Yep, spoilers through episode five.

Summary: Hiro's thoughts on the subway car.

~~*~~

“You look different without the scar.”

Different in a hundred little ways but there wasn’t time to say that, there was barely enough time to say what needed to be said. Wanted was something else, all the things Hiro wanted to say would take a lifetime, rewinding time and space just to feel the words leave his tongue again, to see the light in Peter’s eyes change, over and over.

Save the cheerleader, save the world but also change the world. Change all of them in ways that even Hiro couldn’t foresee. People who wouldn’t die, events that wouldn’t happen, places they wouldn’t be.

He had to remind himself not to touch Peter. Panic was layered beneath his curiosity and any slight wrong move would bring it to the fore and possibly negate the message that needed to be heard. He nearly did it anyway even if he wasn’t allowed, not yet, possibly never would be. Save the cheerleader, change the world and they would never end up on the run together.

Day after day, doing what they could to help in a war that their very genes had enlisted them in. Hiding out when they had to and once, camped in a decrepit office building, the smells of moldering papers and sour death strong in their nostrils over the warm sting of a stolen bottle of whiskey. They would never huddle close for warmth, never touch, never weep for friends lost, lovers…never ever after.

With this one time shift, he risked a rift, that much he could say but there was no time to tell Peter the truth, the whole of it, that he was risking everything. Everything he was about to lose, even hoped he would, for the sake of the world. Lovers lost, never to be found. Peter.

And neither of them would ever even know it.

"Save the cheerleader, save the world," Hiro told him and walked away, back to a future that he hoped was a better place. For all of them.

Thank you! Hiro and Peter are my two faves, too. I just about squealed out loud when I saw Future Hiro's hair was long and pulled back. Mmmmmmm, pretty!

KEELYFIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And yeah, Heroes is sucking me in. And now I have you adding to that! Aigh! EEEE!

[identity profile] keelywolfe.livejournal.com 2006-10-27 03:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Heh, I figured it was just a matter of time for me. I resisted at first because every time I fall for a show, it gets canceled! So I waited to make sure it was sticking around before I watched. *G*

[identity profile] mizzmarvel.livejournal.com 2006-10-25 04:55 pm (UTC)(link)
You, madam, WIN. There was really something very wistful about the way Hiro mentioned that scar, and I think you carried out that wistful, sort of bittersweet moment very well in this ficlet. It also makes thinking about the moment when they first speak very wrought with tension.

I finally got around to uploading a Heroes icon, just to comment on this. Not that it's any skin off my nose - everyone could do with a Prettyrelli icon.

[identity profile] keelywolfe.livejournal.com 2006-10-27 03:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you! I thought Hiro sounded sort of wistful too. Just something about the way he said it made me think all sorts of slashy things. Now all I need is for the present Hiro to meet Peter, and maybe I'll have something to work with. *G*

Hoorah!

So far Hiro is the main reason I'm still watching; everyone in the house adores him.

[identity profile] keelywolfe.livejournal.com 2006-10-27 03:08 pm (UTC)(link)
I know, I am so loving him. He's a perfect comic geek and I would so act like that if I suddenly got a super power.

When I saw those two together, my first thought was: slash. So very slashable.

Heck, yes. My slash button had been quiet through the whole show and then, bam, Hiro shows up with long hair and a sword, and flirts with Peter? Bing!

[identity profile] icarusancalion.livejournal.com 2006-10-27 07:13 pm (UTC)(link)
My slash button must be hair-triggered, because it started pinging a little at Hiro's office and then went off like a geiger counter in Chernobyl on the plane. :)

Yay! I'm so glad that somebody else wrote Peter/Hiro too. They would be an awesome duo. I hadn't considered yet how Hiro coming back to warn Peter would change things for the Hiro of the future. Maybe they'll get a second chance, poor boys. Thanks for this.

[identity profile] keelywolfe.livejournal.com 2006-10-27 03:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you! I can't wait for present Hiro and Peter to finally meet. The possiblities are endless. ;)

This was gorgeous, and a very unique take on how they would have gotten together. Wonderful.

I fell for Hiro in a big way. How could I not love a comic geek? And then he came back from the future with long hair and reeking of coolness? Yeah, I was doomed. His practically flirting with Peter was a perk. *G*

Oh my. That was really, really powerful. I never would've thought of it---it's so simple, but it's so devastating. Hiro knows, in that moment, that the second he goes back to the future, everything could be completely different, and, just, GAH! The line "And neither of them would ever even know it" hits you like a punch in the gut. The thing is, though, it's such a Hiro thing to do---to help others, no matter what the cost. You've done an amazing job with this. I'm blown away.

[identity profile] keelywolfe.livejournal.com 2006-10-27 03:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Blush.

Oh, thank you! I couldn't help but wonder about the changes in the future if they did manage to save the cheerleader. Hiro would be returning to a future completely different from the one he left and I wondered how that would affect him. :)

This was a very touching piece of writing. It's amazing that you are able to put so much emotion into so little writing. I love it.

Thank you! I love Hiro, too. :)

Your prose in this fic is a little disjointed, probably intentionally, but it sparked my imagination anyway and, if I understood it correctly, it's a very intriguing, dramatic premise that you tease out in so few words... This is the idea that Hiro and Peter became lovers in the future, which was one lovely aspect of an otherwise dreadful future, a future which he is now attempting to ensure never comes to be, even if that means what he and Peter shared similarly will never come to pass. Hand me a tissue, would you? :( Future Hiro makes for a fine tragic figure and you create a strong sense of his self discipline in the face of his passion.

[identity profile] keelywolfe.livejournal.com 2007-07-13 11:27 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you so much. Future Hiro is a personal favorite of mine. :)
