This is one of the most powerful sentences I've read in a long while. The way that it, after a break in the text, implies a continuity with the past, the futility of each moment, the defining of a day without positive terms, and the meaninglessness... it's just a perfect sentence.

However, I'm not sure about this sentence: It was easier to forget that he might be something made from diseased hands when Remus was with him in the dark, whispering things that would make even saner men blush stupidly and bury their faces in the pillows to hide their heated cheeks.
Should that really be saner? Considering the context, I would assume that saner men would blush more easily—it would be insaner men who would take such filthy whisperings in stride. Of course, I may just be missing something, for there certainly is an argument to be made that only insane people would blush at sex—you know, the type of people who prevent their children from knowing anything about sex and tell them that masturbating is equivalent to torture and child abuse.
Well, there's nothing in the bible specifically against "shooting heroin", "torchure", or "child abuse." Those issues have never been addressed, by name, in scripture by "do" or "do not" commands.
If we were to follow the same logic of the pro-masturbation arguement: "Since shooting heroin, torchure, and child abuse are not specifically prohibited in scripture- then God's ok with it."
My question is why does the assumption that "anything not forbidden, by name, in scripture is ok with God" - is the argument of pro-masturbators, but it doesn't pan out for other areas like: torchure or child abuse? ) So, perhaps you are making an insightful commentary that people who think they are "sane" are actually "insane"?
