And they called it puppy love
A couple of months ago we got a new puppy. She's a little dachshund and at the time we got her, she was the cutest little thing you could imagine. She still is, weighing in at a sturdy five pounds and is currently curled up sleeping in my lap. (Waking up for the day has been exhausting for her today)
Now, I was a little concerned when we first got her because I know dachshunds have a bit of a reputation for being nippy and yappy. I have two rough and tumble kids and I didn't want this to be an issue. I worried about it for, oh, 30 seconds or so, then took her home. (What? I told you she was adorable!)
Over the past two months, she has proven my short worries to be pointless. She adores my children, particularly my son. In the morning, when she wakes up and after she goes outside, she immediately scampers back in, to the children's bedroom, where she proceeds to mercilessly attack my son. First his feet, then his face, licking madly until he awakes to play with her. This has been the tradition.
Now, we've been working on my son's bedroom for months now and we finally finished it. It's downstairs and both my children begged permission to sleep down there. Well, all right, not a big deal.
Or it wasn't. Until this morning.
This morning, when she scrambled into the bedroom, my puppy was caught short. Uh...where are her kids? She gave me a bewildered, betrayed look, whimpered, and then left with the dejected air of one who has discovered Christmas has been canceled. I would have taken her downstairs but I wanted to give the kids a chance to sleep in, since they were up late.
Thus far, this morning, she has gone into that bedroom three times. Searched around, as though I'd hidden her children someplace, and then left, dejected and alone. I may have to let her wake the kids early, before she abandons this world with a broken heart.

With that amount of adorableness in those large pupp eyes... you just can't help but love the dog.

She is. She's a little mini one. You can't see it well in the picture but she has two different color eyes, brown and blue. Just about the sweetest thing you can imagine, too.

HOWEVER *puts on dog trainer hat* You still have a long way- about 10-14 months- to go until maturity. :) Don't let up on the training and keep making sure you enforce rules and boundaries and call her wonderful too soon, cuz you still gotta get through teh evils that are teenagerdom!

Can you tell I've lived with the same thing from my dog? It's terrible when one of the kids goes away somewhere and she can't find them! Nobody can mope like a dog deprived of their kids.
