This story really snuck up on me! I wrote it all in one day in a huge burst of inspiration. ^_^
I found it fascinating that you managed to keep all three of them so much in character, yet have them do participate in this wonderful commemoration of McCoy's birthday. You have a wonderful way of vividly painting McCoy's emotions as he rollercoasters through this story, so that I found myself hanging on for the ride with my heart, sometimes in my throat and other times just plain aching in my chest.
I love McCoy as a charactor. As passionate as Jim in his own way but world-weary and hurt, not quite bitter but edging on it. I don't see grouchy curmudgeon as much as I see faintly lonely and prickly, keeping people at a distance so they don't hurt him.
I loved the way Spock completely involved in it...
[...] and, Lord, Spock was leaning down to kiss his fingertips, licking just the tip of each one, dark eyes flicking closed. That had to be the most emotion he'd ever seen on that normally expressionless face, something like want twisting over it.
LOL! Spock should always excel at everything he does. *G*
...which really turns McCoy on, and then when Jim arrives...
"Be careful of the ears, they're really sensitive."
That was inspired by a good friend! The story was supposed to end at Spock and McCoy, and she pointed out that Jim would be jealous of both of them. He's supposed to be the peanut butter to their bread, don't you know.
"Fuck," he groaned. "You don’t know how long—you don't-"
...that he'd always wanted more from Bones and finally he was getting it.
Poor Jim. Playing by their unspoken rules, never getting what HE wanted for his birthday. Good thing Spock doesn't mind shoving aside all that illogical pining and just went for it. ;)
This is a beautiful written, hugely satisfying and highly erotic story. Thank you for sharing it!
Thank you so much! I'm just thrilled that people really seemed to enjoy it!
