So my son, who is ten, has seen the Star Wars movies years ago in the way that all kids watch movies. They sit still for five minutes, wander off, come back, wash, rinse, repeat. Since he is now ten and has more of an attention span, my husband decided that the new blu-ray release was a great way to get him to see the movies again. (And when I say Star Wars movies, I mean Episodes 4 thru 6, we know this, right? We will watch TPM eventually, but I feel it is important that they weren't tainted before the first watching.)

So we did. For three days, when we all got home, we sat down and watched one episode of the original Star Wars trilogy. And as expected, he loved them, has always loved Star Wars. This is no surprise.

The surprise came in the form of the kid I wasn't expecting to enjoy it, the kid who hasn't seen any of the movies, my pink-loving, My Little Pony five-year old. Who sat and watched all three movies, riveted, eyes-wide as every new thing happened, her squeal as the "I am your Father scene" hit, and her near tears at the end of the 'Return', afterward begging to watch all the movies again. She looooooves it, especially the droids.

Consequently, I am filled with hope. I honestly thought the gods played a prank on me, giving me this Extreme Girly Girl to deal with. That she has found joy in Star Wars makes me want to dance with happiness. We might actually have something in common from time to time!! ;)
